Casca is the sole female commander of the Band of the Hawk who grows close to Guts during their time together. Their relationship deepens when Guts returns to rescue Griffith, and the two confess their love before the catastrophic Eclipse. During the Eclipse, Casca is assaulted by the reborn Femto, leaving her mentally broken. Guts entrusts her to the care of others before setting out on his revenge quest. He later returns to find her missing, and his search leads to their eventual reunion and journey toward Elfhelm, where the elven sage Danann ultimately restores Casca's mind. The Winter Journey depicts this poignant period in their relationship, capturing the emotional weight of Guts's protective role and Casca's vulnerability.
