This distinctive piece merges the world of Osamu Tezuka's legendary medical drama with the centuries-old Japanese tradition of daruma dolls. Daruma dolls are traditional Japanese talismans modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism. They symbolize perseverance and good luck, with a custom of painting in one eye when setting a goal and the other upon achieving it. Black Jack, created by manga pioneer Osamu Tezuka, follows an unlicensed surgeon who operates outside the medical establishment, charging exorbitant fees while demonstrating extraordinary skill and a complex moral code. Standing approximately 40cm tall, this daruma is crafted from clay and paper materials, reflecting traditional daruma construction methods while incorporating Black Jack's distinctive character design.
