Kokeshi Works reimagines Pinoko from Osamu Tezuka's Black Jack as a traditional Japanese kokeshi doll. Standing approximately 80mm tall, this wooden figure blends the centuries-old craft of kokeshi doll-making with one of manga's most distinctive supporting characters. Black Jack follows the titular unlicensed surgeon, a brilliant medical prodigy who operates outside the legal and ethical boundaries of the medical establishment. Pinoko is Black Jack's loyal assistant and companion, a character with an unusual origin: she began as a teratoma cyst growing inside her twin sister and was surgically extracted and given a synthetic body by Black Jack. Despite her childlike appearance and mannerisms, she claims to be eighteen years old and serves as the emotional heart of Black Jack's otherwise solitary life. Kokeshi dolls are a traditional Japanese craft dating back centuries, characterized by their simple cylindrical bodies and enlarged heads. This figure translates Pinoko's distinctive look into the minimalist kokeshi aesthetic.
