About this figure
Kurotani Corporation presents Medama-Oyaji from the long-running GeGeGe no Kitaro franchise in their Ko version figure. This diminutive collectible captures one of the most iconic and unusual characters in Japanese manga and anime history. Medama-Oyaji is Kitaro's father, originally a fully-formed adult ghost who perished from disease and was reborn from his own decayed body as an anthropomorphic eyeball. As a member of the Ghost Tribe, he accompanies his son on supernatural adventures, serving as an invaluable source of knowledge about all things yōkai. His tiny form enjoys bathing in teacups, and he is known for calling out "Oi! Kitaro!" throughout the series. The character first appeared in Shigeru Mizuki's 1960 manga The Birth of Kitaro and debuted in anime form in 1968. Voice actor Isamu Tanonaka performed the role across the first five anime series and most other media until his death in 2010, establishing a high-pitched vocal standard that subsequent performers have aimed to match. This Ko version figure stands approximately 50mm tall, reflecting the character's famously minuscule stature within the series.
