Girls Band Cry follows the formation and struggles of the band Togenashi Togeari. Momoka Kawaragi is the band's leader and lead guitarist, a 20-year-old street musician with a straightforward, tomboyish personality. Born in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Momoka was previously a member of the band Diamond Dust before leaving and eventually forming Togenashi Togeari. She embraces a simple style, disliking feminine attire and opting for plain clothing and hairstyles. Despite her cheerful and caring nature, she can be seen drinking heavily on occasion and frequently clashes with bandmate Nina Iseri, with their disagreements sometimes turning physical. Momoka's backstory as a musician who quit school to form a band at a young age is a homage to Kōji Tamaki, the famous vocalist of rock band Anzen Chitai, who also hails from Asahikawa.
