Saitou Hajime is based on the historical captain of the first unit of the Shinsengumi, known for his left-handed swordsmanship and stoic demeanor. The series weaves political tension in Kyoto with supernatural elements as the Shinsengumi face both human enemies and the terrifying fury demons.
