The King is a king quail and the self-proclaimed ultimate ruler of the Holiday Star, a mysterious false star that uses its light to attract wandering souls. Childish in demeanor, he refers to himself in the third person as though narrating a book. Despite his regal appearance with ornate robes and a crown, the King harbors a dark nature — he refuses to let anyone leave the Holiday Star once they arrive, instead trapping them in fantasy worlds and absorbing them into himself. In his true form, he grows dozens of disfigured heads representing the souls he has consumed. It is eventually revealed through his Picture Book that the King was a deeply troubled soul in life, adding tragedy to his menacing role.
