Hokuto no Ken is set in a world devastated by nuclear war, where civilization has collapsed and brutal warlords terrorize the surviving population. Kenshiro, the successor of the deadly Hokuto Shinken martial art, wanders the wasteland protecting the weak. Bat is a resourceful young thief who joins Kenshiro early in the series alongside the young girl Rin. As the story progresses across arcs including the Tentei and Shura no Kuni storylines, Bat grows from a street-smart child into a key figure in the resistance against tyranny. The series has seen numerous video game adaptations, including SEGA's side-scrolling action titles for the Mega Drive that adapted these later story arcs following the death of the villain Raoh.
