About this figure

This handcrafted daruma figure features Hyoutantsugi, one of Osamu Tezuka's beloved characters, reimagined as a traditional Japanese wishing doll. Produced through a collaboration between Chara'ft and Shirakawa Daruma Shouhonpo, this piece is part of the "chadaruma" line — a portmanteau combining "character" and "daruma." Chara'ft had previously released Black Jack versions of these daruma, with Hyoutantsugi making its first appearance in this format. Hyoutantsugi is a recurring comedic character from Osamu Tezuka's manga universe, known for his distinctive gourd-like appearance. Traditional daruma are handmade good luck charms typically made of paper mache and painted almost entirely red except for the face. This figure reinterprets that cultural tradition through the lens of Tezuka's character designs, blending heritage with pop culture. The figure stands approximately 40mm tall and is crafted from clay and paper materials, staying true to the handmade daruma tradition. It was released as a Japan-exclusive in January 2024, with each piece made to order during a limited sales window at the end of July.
