The Monogatari Series originated as a light novel series written by Nisio Isin and illustrated by Vofan, published by Kodansha. The story centers on Koyomi Araragi, a third-year high school student who survives a vampire attack and subsequently finds himself entangled with all manner of apparitions, gods, ghosts, mythological beasts, and spirits. Yotsugi Ononoki is one such supernatural being he encounters throughout the series, which received an anime adaptation by Studio Shaft beginning in 2009.
