Despite her aloof appearance, Vanilla is highly intelligent and observant, frequently offering practical advice and speaking with a blunt, dry sense of humor. She is deeply attached to her twin sister Chocola, with whom she was found abandoned as a young kitten by Kashou and Shigure Minaduki. After recovering from illness with Kashou's care, both twins became strongly devoted to him.
