Tokuriki Honten, a jewelry company, created this figure as part of a special promotion tied to the 2016 film. Monkey D. Luffy is the rubber-bodied captain of the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece, Eiichiro Oda's long-running manga and anime about a young man seeking to become the Pirate King. In One Piece Film: Gold, Luffy and his crew travel to Gran Tesoro, an enormous entertainment city ruled by the gold-manipulating villain Gild Tesoro. The film's themes of wealth and gold inspired Tokuriki Honten's involvement as a jeweler. This prepainted figure stands approximately 100mm tall and was released in August 2016. Tokuriki Honten also produced a pure 24k gold version of the Luffy statue in both small (100mm) and large (180mm) sizes, with the large version weighing approximately 1,300 grams.
