This piece draws inspiration from Japanese literary and folklore traditions, particularly evoking the atmosphere of Mimei Ogawa's classic story Akai Rosoku to Ningyo (Red Candles and a Mermaid). Ogawa's tale, originally published in 1921 in The Newspaper Tokyo-Asahi, tells the haunting story of a mermaid raised by an elderly couple who painted on candles, bringing prosperity to their business before the couple's greed led them to sell her to a circus. The narrative blends traditional Japanese folklore with poignant themes of desire, loss, and consequence. Sum-Art's interpretation translates this literary heritage into a sculptural form with a striking red coral colorway. This figure stands approximately 240mm tall and is crafted from polystone and resin, materials that allow for fine detail and a premium finish. The sculpt was created by Morita Yuuki and sheep, whose collaborative work brings the ethereal concept to life.
