Sculpted by sheep and Tsukada Takashi, this striking piece draws inspiration from the literary tradition of "Akai Rosoku to Ningyo" (Red Candles and a Mermaid), the celebrated 1921 masterpiece by Mimei Ogawa. Ogawa's haunting tale centers on a mermaid raised by an elderly couple, who painted on candles and brought prosperity to their business. The story takes a dark turn when the couple's greed leads them to sell the mermaid to a circus. The red candle serves as a central metaphor for inner turmoil and the consequences of desire, blending traditional Japanese folklore with a modern sensibility. This White version of the figure stands approximately 550mm tall and is part of Sum-Art's original figure lineup, which also includes Black and Aka Sango variants of the same theme. The sculptors sheep and Tsukada Takashi have brought this evocative concept to life in a substantial, display-worthy format.
