About this figure
This original figure depicts Ame no Kaku no Kami, produced as part of the Chibitanku line. The figure draws from Japanese mythology, specifically the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki texts that chronicle the earliest Japanese creation myths. Ame-no-Minakanushi is portrayed in the Kojiki (ca. 712 CE) as the first deity to manifest when heaven and earth came into existence. Known as the "Lord of the August Center of Heaven," this kami appeared in the heavenly realm of Takamagahara after the emergence of heaven and earth from primeval chaos. Ame-no-Minakanushi is reckoned as the first of the "three deities of creation" (zōka sanshin) and one of the five "distinguished heavenly gods" (kotoamatsukami). Unlike later generations of kami, the first seven gods were solitary, coming into being one by one without counterparts, and are described as hiding their presence upon coming into existence. No further mention is made of this deity in the ancient texts, adding an air of mystery. The Chibitanku format presents this primordial deity in a compact, stylized form suitable for display.
