About this figure
Chibitanku presents Ame no Kaku no Kami, a figure based on the deer deity from Japanese mythology, in a Snow Painting original version. This figure draws from the rich mythological tradition of ancient Japan rather than an anime or manga source. Ame-no-Kaku is a divine deer deity that appears in the Kojiki, Japan's oldest extant chronicle. According to the myth, when the sun goddess Amaterasu sought to claim the earthly realm of Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni from the deity Okuninushi, she dispatched emissaries to negotiate the transfer of power. After two previous emissaries defected, Amaterasu chose Ame-no-Kaku to locate the secluded deities Itsu-no-Ohabari and Takemikazuchi in the rugged mountainous terrain. Being a deer, Ame-no-Kaku was uniquely suited to traverse the difficult landscape that other heavenly deities could not navigate. This mythological role established deer as Shinshi, or divine servants, of Takemikazuchi, a connection that endures at Kasuga Taisha shrine in Nara, where deer are still revered as sacred messengers. This Snow Painting version figure is produced by Chibitanku and presents an original artistic interpretation of the divine deer emissary.
