About this figure

Pink Company presents 2K-tan from the OS-tan franchise, sculpted by Guhico and Hirai Yukio. This figure represents one of the earliest commercial collectibles based on the OS-tan phenomenon. OS-tans are moe anthropomorphic personifications of popular operating systems, originating on the Japanese imageboard Futaba Channel. The concept began as a humorous personification of Windows Me's reputation for instability, eventually expanding to include personifications of other operating systems. The -tan suffix is a hypocoristic Japanese ending implying youthful endearment. 2K-tan specifically represents Windows 2000, and was designed by GUHICO of Stranger Workshop, alongside ME-tan and XP-tan. The OS-tan concept proved so popular that Microsoft branches in several Asian countries adopted the personification concept for official advertising campaigns. This figure from Pink Company represents an early piece of OS-tan merchandise history. The OS-tan characters were featured in the Trouble Windows OS-tan FanBook by Ohzora Publishing, which included figures of 95-tan, ME-tan, and XP-tan with a molded space for 2K-tan, making this figure a complementary collectible to that set.
