R-Type Delta is a horizontally scrolling shooter released for the PlayStation in 1998, set in a universe where humanity battles the Bydo, a biomechanical entity that threatens all civilization. The R-9A2 Delta is a reinforced atmospheric prototype and the successor to the R-9A Arrowhead. When the Bydo struck again one year after the first encounter, the Delta was rushed into combat alongside the R-13A Cerberus and RX-10 Albatross while still in an experimental state. The craft is equipped with a Diffusion Wave Cannon prototype that concentrates and disperses energy using a special catalyzer, along with Standard Force Bit Devices, Round Bit missiles, and Homing Missiles. At the end of the mission, the R-9A2 successfully escapes from the evil dimension.
