Saint Seiya follows the story of young warriors known as Saints who fight to protect the reincarnation of the goddess Athena. Aiolos is the Gold Saint of the Sagittarius constellation, one of the twelve most powerful Saints in the series. He is remembered as a heroic and selfless figure who sacrificed himself to protect the infant Athena, setting the events of the entire series in motion. His legacy and his Sagittarius Gold Cloth play a central role throughout the story, passed down to the protagonist Seiya and the other Bronze Saints in their battles against increasingly powerful enemies.
