Unlike the other heroes who received offensive weapons, Naofumi was given the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment. His situation worsened when his sole companion, revealed to be the kingdom's princess, betrayed him with false accusations of assault. Shunned by everyone from royalty to peasants, a cynical Naofumi was forced to fight alone, eventually purchasing Raphtalia and hatching Filo, both of whom became powerful warriors under his care.
