The Infinite Stratos series is set in a world where powerful exoskeletal weapons called Infinite Stratos can only be piloted by women, with the exception of one young man, Ichika Orimura, who is enrolled in the IS Academy. Laura Bodewig is the IS Representative Candidate of Germany and the commander of the Schwarzer Hase unit. She was initially introduced as an antagonist before becoming one of Ichika's allies and romantic interests. Laura is notable for her distinctive appearance, including an artificial left eye that Ichika describes as looking like gemstones. She is both the shortest and most petite of the main heroines, and her military background gives her a serious demeanor that gradually softens through her interactions with Ichika and the other students.
