In the Infinite Stratos universe, powered exoskeletons called IS can only be piloted by women, making protagonist Ichika Orimura a rare exception. Laura Bodewig is the IS Representative Candidate of Germany and commander of Schwarzer Hase, initially introduced as an antagonist who despised Ichika for indirectly causing her idol Chifuyu Orimura to forfeit a match. Born and raised in a military complex, Laura has a cold and antisocial personality with a superiority complex stemming from her identity as a super soldier. She later becomes an ally, and her black cat pajamas were a gift from Charlotte Dunois. Charlotte herself is a kind and clever character who becomes one of Ichika's closest companions.
