Good Smile Company's Nendoroid #059 features Itoshiki Nozomu from the dark comedy anime Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Sculpted by Nendoron and Hiroshi (Sakurazensen), the figure stands approximately 100mm tall and is made from ABS and PVC. Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei follows Nozomu Itoshiki, a perpetually despairing high school teacher whose name, when read differently, spells "zetsubou" (despair). The series uses his pessimistic worldview as a springboard for satirical commentary on Japanese society, culture, and human nature. Each episode finds Nozomu attempting to escape life's problems in increasingly absurd ways, only to be pulled back by his eccentric students, each of whom embodies a different social extreme or neurosis. The figure was released in March 2009 with a retail price of approximately 3,333 JPY, later reissued under the Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei branding. It captures Nozomu in his signature hunched, despairing posture.
