Jigoku Raku follows Gabimaru the Hollow, a ninja sentenced to death who is offered a chance at freedom if he can find the Elixir of Life on a mysterious and deadly island. Yamada Asaemon Sagiri is a young executioner from the Yamada clan, a family of government-sanctioned sword testers and executioners. Assigned to monitor Gabimaru on his mission, Sagiri struggles with the moral weight of her role as an executioner while developing a complex bond with Gabimaru. Her growth from a dutiful but conflicted clan member to someone who questions the nature of justice and humanity forms one of the series' most compelling character arcs.
