Lycoris Recoil is set in a world where orphaned girls are raised as agents called Lycoris by a secret organization called DA, tasked with maintaining peace in Japan by covertly eliminating threats. Takina Inoue is a skilled and disciplined Lycoris agent who is transferred to the LycoReco cafe after being expelled from DA headquarters for ignoring orders during a mission. There she partners with the cheerful and unconventional Chisato Nishikigi, whose pacifist approach to their work clashes with Takina's efficiency-focused mindset. Over the course of the series, Takina gradually opens up and develops a deep bond with Chisato, learning that there is more to their work than simply following orders.
