Sculpted by Take, Lack, and Tateno Naoki, this figure offers a darker interpretation of the virtual diva. Hatsune Miku, the first member of Crypton Future Media's Character Vocal Series, was released in August 2007 for the VOCALOID2 engine. Her name means 'the first sound from the future,' combining 'hatsu' (first), 'ne' (sound), and 'Miku' (future). Conceived as 'an android diva in the near-future world where songs are lost,' Miku has become a cultural phenomenon, inspiring countless creators through a chain of peer production. Her voice is provided by voice actress Saki Fujita, and she has since moved beyond the VOCALOID platform to Crypton's own Piapro Studio NT engine.
